Twins Days 2011

We just arrived home from our whirlwind trip to Ohio for the annual Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, OH. Last year we sort of happened upon it by chance and had so much fun we decided we would try to go back every year. We left early Friday morning, drove the 8 or so hours and arrived in time for the Wiener Roast welcome shindig. (which we missed last year.) We saw lots of the same people we met last year and took more photos, enjoyed our hot dogs and mingled. Our duo was especially popular with the ladies. Here are some photos from our weekend. We have LOTS more photos not featured here. Check them out.

The next morning, bright and early, we were back in Twinsburg for the Double Take Parade. This parade is so much fun. All twins can walk in the parade and each year there is a new theme. Last year was a Western theme, this year it was the Circus. (No more fitting theme for a twins event than circus, I think!)

We figured there would be lots and lots of clowns so we went with a different angle: Human Cannonballs. Since the boys can walk but do so very slowly and with lots of distraction, we converted their wagon into a cannon and pulled them along the route. They were a hit! We got tons of comments and lots of people wanting to take their photo. Their costumes were a white shirt with blue shorts, all decorated dare-devil style with red stars. They wore their bike helmets, which happen to have the exact right feel for a human cannonball costume (and were sort of the starting point) as well as red capes made from old t-shirts. I realize I am biased, but they were adorable. We ran into some other twin cannonballers who had a much higher production value to their float. They could actually fit into their dual cannons! Very cool.

The rest of the day was spent at the festival grounds exploring, having lunch, competing in a costume contest and getting our photo taken for the big group photo. The boys even competed in a theme contest for 12 and under. (didn’t win, but got a ribbon for participation.) They have tons of contests, but while we were there it was oldest and youngest. The youngest winners were 8 weeks old and the oldest were 96!

It was a long day. And Hot. Between the contest and the photo, we went back to the car to rehydrate and cool off. Our guys were wiped out and they fell asleep in the wagon.

The big group photo was the last thing of our day. We were hot, tired and the photo was crowded. We managed to squeeze in up front so hopefully the boys will show up in the crowd. Last year our participation in the group photo landed a photo in National Geographic.

A long, fun day at Twins Days Festival. We went back to the hotel for a quick dip in the pool to cool off, and had dinner out with friends and their twins. It was a quick weekend but packed full of fun!

Also, here are our photos from last year.

The costumes and “float” turned out awesome! You are too creative, Jen and Jeff! It’ll be so neat to see the same people if you keep going back each year – like an adopted family reunion ;) Give the cannon balls a hug from us!
